Our Mission

Formerly Michigan Young Agents, Big I Michigan NextGen Leaders of Michigan exists to:

  • Connect and nurture relationships within all walks of the industry – agents, companies, vendors and students
  • Provide the latest professional development, sales and team building experiences
  • Enlighten agents on the importance of advocacy and legislative involvement to protect the interests of our clients and businesses
  • Inspire agents to make volunteerism, charity and community involvement an integral part of their professional identity
  • Promote the independent agency system as a boundless career choice for young people
  • Provide support and financial assistance to students in insurance programs and new agents seeking professional designations

NextGen Leaders of Michigan 3rd Annual Virtual 5K

Benefiting Leader Dogs for the Blind
May 16th - 30th, 2025

Get ready to lace up your sneakers and run (or walk!) for a great cause.  All proceeds will benefit the NextGen Charity, Leader Dogs for the Blind. This fun and friendly competition is open to all agencies and partners, so rally your team and show us what you’ve got!

What is a virtual run/walk? You just need to track 7500 steps during the week, anywhere and anytime you like!  You will then share your photos or videos and tag Next Gen Leaders of Michigan on Facebook!  Use the hashtags #NextGenMichiganGive and #MI-NG5K.  

The top video will win a trophy for your office, presented by NextGen at the Sales & Leadership Conference in June!

Proceeds will benefit Leader Dogs for the Blind.  This is a non-profit organization that is 100% philanthropically funded.  Leader Dog's programs give people the tools, skills and confidence to travel independently.   Click here for more information on Leader Dogs for the Blind.

NextGen Leaders of Michigan is providing two, $1,000 scholarships for the 2025-26cademic year to college students pursuing careers in the independent agency system.

Advocacy Efforts

Advocacy Efforts

NextGen Leaders understand the importance of developing relationships with local, state and national legislators and taking steps throughout the year to spread the word about the importance of advocacy and legislative efforts in our industry. That’s why YA:

  • Collects PAC donations for the Big I Michigan AgentPAC (state PAC) and for Big I National's InsurPac.
  • Distributes information and legislative resources at many of their events.
  • Sends NextGen representatives to the Big "I" National Legislative Conference and meets with legislators on Capitol Hill to discuss issues important to our industry.
  • Joins Big I Michigan Leadership in Lansing to participate in the association’s Agent Legislative Day visits with legislators.

  

Agents: Interested in Getting Involved in NextGen Leaders of Michigan?

To qualify as a NextGen Leader, you must:

  • Work for a Big I Michigan member agency
  • Be under the age of 40 or have less than 5 years’ experience working at a member agency.

There are no membership dues.
