Hello friends-

Tim Curtis here from the Emil Rummel Agency in Frankenmuth. As a proud MAIA Young Agents Committee member I wanted to take this time to share a little more about myself, our agency, and my experience thus far in the insurance industry!

My time in the insurance industry started in December of 2016 which means as of this month I have been in the “game” for just over 3 and ½ years. At the Rummel Agency I serve as a Commercial P&C Producer with a focus on targeting the hospitality industry-namely restaurants and Craft Breweries. Our agency created Michigan’s first brewery specific insurance program 20+ years ago and that area is something we hang our hat on! Prior to joining the agency I served as a bar manager at a downtown Frankenmuth hotspot which provided me with a lot of firsthand experience and knowledge of the industry that many do not have the opportunity to learn.

Our agency employs more than 60 people across five different locations. In addition to Personal & Commercial Lines we also have departments dedicated to Farm/Agribusiness & Life and Health. 2020 is the Rummel Agency’s 70th Anniversary and we are just as dedicated to “Insuring our clients today” while “Securing their tormorrow” as we were in 1950. I know everyone says this…but our staff is truly one of a kind and our management team does an outstanding job of making sure everyone knows they are appreciated. We have a lot of fun events throughout the year, from an annual summer retreat (last year was a Cocktail Hour and Glow Golf) to celebrating “National … Day” (National Ice Cream Day for example) and hosting an Agency party during the Frankenmuth Auto Fest block party.  It is a well stated fact around our company that we certainly work hard so we can play hard!

I was encouraged by our agency Owner/CEO, Greg Rummel, to attend the Young Agents Conference held in Detroit my first year with the agency. Greg was a past chair of the YA Committee from 2001-2002 and fully understands the importance of the YA for those new to the industry. That first conference included a Risk Management tour of Comerica Park, a couple of CE opportunities, and plenty of time to network with industry colleagues who were also relatively new to the scene. That led me to attend both the YA Conference and the YA Golf Outing annually from there on out. After the 2019 YA Conference in downtown Lansing I got a call from Lisa Lemanski (YAC Chair 2019-2020 and Owner at Meiers Lombardini Lemanski Insurance.) Lisa and I had gotten to know each other over the years prior and bonded over our shared fandom of Notre Dame football (Go Irish!) Lisa offered me a position on the committee and after all of the great experiences I was able to have attending YA events I was more than happy to accept!

Outside of insurance I definitely try to take advantage of my free time. In the warmer months I play a lot of golf, travel to our family vacation spot in East Tawas, and try to catch a few Tigers games each season. In the fall it’s attending Notre Dame Football games and enjoying the cooler weather. A Michigan craft beer and a good cigar are welcome regardless of the season! I have a wonderful girlfriend, a loving family, and great friends to enjoy all of the good times with me! Prost!
