It took me a couple years to figure out what I wanted to study in college. I was taking general education courses and reflecting on what I liked. In my first math class, there was a problem on the final exam that involved choosing resources to maximize saving lives after a natural disaster. When I first started at Ferris, I was in the pharmacy program. I soon realized some of the things I was studying – like biology – weren’t my favorite. I still wanted to be in a field where I could help people. I like to research things and love math, so I switched to actuarial science. When I was in high school, I honestly didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life, but I saw that my uncle owned an insurance agency and saw he was doing well. My family knew about the Insurance and Risk Management Program at Olivet, so they encouraged me to give it a try – especially if I liked what I learned through Eaton RESA. I was also motivated to study insurance since I had earned nine college credits through the high school program.
